Walter Röhrl
In addition to his four victories at the Monte Carlo Rally, which he won with four different car brands – FIAT, Lancia, Opel and Audi – the 1972 Olympia Rally was one of the most important achievement for Röhrl. On the way from Kiel to Munich, he blended with the world elite with his blue and yellow Ford Capri RS with BILSTEIN suspensions as a 24-year-old nobody; however, he had to come last due to a technical fault of the engine.
Despite his early setback, Röhrl’s career was off to a flying start. With a monthly salary of 800 German marks, he launched his professional career in 1973 with Opel. In 1974, he and his co-pilot Jochen Berger became the European rally champions. Naturally, his victorious Ascona was fitted with BILSTEIN components.
